Here we are! The perfect way to introduce any and all the new, original and ofttimes weird and/or crazy thoughts, feelings and ideas I have and will be working on to express in my art.

All the completed artwork that I post here, together with some of the conceptual and theoretical writings will also be added to my Fine Art Photography website www.kallenakucers.com

Now, this image on the left is not a scene from Hitchcock's 'Psycho'. This is, in fact, a part of a new series of works that I am currently working on processing, that happened purely by chance. It so happened that I spent some months of the last part of 2010 in and out of hospital. Not pleasant but - new artistic and photographic opportunities arise in the most unexpected places and ways.

To keep my mind of how revoltingly miserable I was feeling, though I certainly could not even have held my DSLR, much less pointed it at something coherent, for a time I was well enough to pull out the iphone and start snapping away. Here too was suddenly the first real opportunity to use the hipstamatic app I had bought, but not really given to this time a decent work-out.

Much to my surprise, when I was finally feeling a touch better and able to sit at my computer again, on uploading the images I was stunned to see that there seemed to be a certain atmosphere about them that I quite liked!

So, with a touch more work in PS, was born a photo-essay of close to 100 selected images from my 3 stays in hospital. But - where does a super keen but as yet pretty unknown artist display a moody series of nearly 100 works??? Well, to this point I have no idea (any reasonable suggestions welcomed!). So, as necessity is the mother of all invention, the idea of triptychs was born. Some of these may be viewed on my website under the heading of "Experimental Work". I have even had a couple printed now on extremely high-gloss film negative and I have been absolutely amazed at the print quality that can be obtained from images shot using a basic phone camera, with this particular app. So - I'm sure that, in the proper time and place, there will be more works to come from me using these particular technologies.

The Sense of Self: Flight No.5

As well as developing this series, I am also finally now returning to further expand on my foundation series of works THE SENSE OF SELF. So - in the coming weeks and months I hope to have more works to show you that draw on the grounding I began developing in the original series "Flight" and "Substance". I have been working on a whole new set of props to photograph for the development of this series, and I might even sneak in a few 'straight' photos of what these look like in real life too.
